LIMA-What?
•The word simply names the space ‘in between’, like a bridge, adolescents or an unemployed person who knows they will work again•
•Liminal is people who love God, want to live life with a community, but just can’t do church right now. Think of it more like a ‘co-hort’ and less like a church. It’s where folks are working the same material and growing in Christ, moving in the same direction. Frame it more like registering for a rec kickball team than joining a church•
•Liminal is an intergenerational, Christ centered gathering (1st & 3rd Sunday nights), with some worship, a teaching & small groups. An optional leadership development group is offered on each 2nd Wednesday of each month•
LIMA-Why?
•It’s a spot on articulation for the space I (Bert) find myself in concerning church. After a 55 year run of belonging to churches, to my great astonishment, today I do not have a church home. I hope I will again someday. I am sensing a pull to create a community for those in a similar space so we can walk this together•
•After an abrupt ending to my life in church last November my wife, Heather, and I thought we’d be more ready to get back to church by now. We are not. Yet, we long for a community, people to grow with that gently guides us to rediscover church•
•Through tons of processing we now find ourselves urged to dream. I am convinced that gathering and guiding those who also find themselves in Liminal space is part of what God has for me as I uniquely pursue the Kingdom•
LIMA-When/Where/Who?
•Fall ‘26 Liminal begins. It doesn’t explode on the scene or launch like a rocket. It’s a seed being buried, a compost pile getting started•
•The 1st & 3rd Sunday of each month 6-7:30 PM *unless it makes sense for us to change the date which will be sent out on the group email.•
FALL ‘26 DATES:
Preview: August 16th
August 30th (*hey that’s not the 1st Sunday of the month, what’s up? The 1st Sun in Sept is Labor Day weekend and, well, it seems too long to wait anyway, so let’s start on the 30th.)
September 20th
October 4th & 18th
November 1st & 15th
December Like 6th & 20th but we’ll see
•Intersection of 1-25 and Crossroads BLVD on the E side of the HWY at a private residence Barn/Shop. Send a note to the contact email to get the address.•
•Anyone can attend Liminal. It will likely be most meaningful for those who love God but just can’t do church right now•
LIMA-How Long?
•We’ll see. We are starting with two semesters that folks sign up for: Sept-Dec, Jan-May. Maybe by then everyone will be ready to find a church home, maybe we’ll keep discovering folks who are just starting their Liminal journey & also need a group like this, maybe God will develop it into something else •
LIMA-who’s running this thing anyway?
•Bert Wright, or if titles are helpful, Rev Dr Bert Wright. I’ve spent my adult life serving the church. 29 years total with most of that in Northern CO. I’m ordained in the ECC denomination and studied at Fuller Theological Seminary for both my masters and doctorate. I am seeing Liminal as something that is built out as we walk together so more leaders will be added as we go•
